Injury Prevention

Recognizing biomechanical deficiencies and muscle length and strength imbalances are key to preventing injuries. At Ridgway Chiropractic, we utilize the latest research and examination procedures to identify biomechanical compensations, postural imbalances, and deficient muscle lengths and strengths to prevent injuries before they occur. All of these potential injury precursors have one thing in common: scar tissue.

Scar tissue adhesions are usually the result of physical stress, poor posture, or overuse and cause the muscles to be tight and weak. These adhesions shorten the length of the muscle and decrease its ability to contract, which leads to weakness and decreased function. As a result of the weakness and decreased function, the body compensates by altering its movement pattern. These altered movement patterns expend more energy and more importantly, put excessive stress on other areas of the body not designed to handle the increased load.

These abnormal stresses result in micro-trauma and weaken the involved area. Scar tissue accumulates and the end result is pain, and an increased propensity for injury. At Ridgway Chiropractic, we are experts in the reduction and removal of scar tissue so that your muscles are firing optimally and the length-tension relationships of your muscles are appropriate.

Injury Treatment

Acute injuries, repetitive trauma, and reduced blood flow result in the formation of scar tissue adhesions that accumulate over time. This scar tissue formation is the result of the body’s attempt to heal an injured or overused area. The thick, matted, and non-contractile matrix of the adhesion restricts normal muscle motion and impedes proper blood flow to the area. Abnormal muscle motion and insufficient blood flow lead to pain, dysfunction, and frustration for the patient.

At Ridgway Chiropractic, we utilize specific protocols designed to identify and remove the buildup of scar tissue to alleviate the pain and break the vicious pain cycle. We understand that nothing is more frustrating than being in pain, especially when it is prohibiting you from enjoying the things you love. At Ridgway Chiropractic, we work closely with you to create an individualized treatment plan that addresses your specific concerns, problems, and goals. We combine chiropractic care with Active Release Technique® (ART) to accelerate your healing time and ensure that you are functioning at your best.

You don’t have to live in pain. Injuries can take months to heal on their own and the damaged tissue is rarely the same. Don’t wait on the sidelines. Book an appointment at Ridgway Chiropractic today!

Performance Enhancement

Performance Enhancement

Altered movement patterns and tight, unbalanced musculature inhibit a muscle’s ability to fully contract. This leads to premature fatigue and compensatory movement patterns. It is important to remember that the foot, ankle, knee, hip, back, etc. are all connected and the proper function of each is necessary to achieve optimal performance and injury prevention. One dysfunctional muscle can cause a problem not only in the affected area but anywhere in the entire kinetic chain, resulting in compensation and inefficient movement.

As muscles get overworked, they tighten up and scar tissue is laid down to repair the microtrauma. The result is a shortened muscle that is unable to effectively and efficiently contract. The shortened muscle now requires more power output to move, increasing energy expenditure, leading to premature fatigue, and causing the recruitment of other muscles to compensate. When these muscles are restored to their proper length and strength, the muscles can fire more efficiently increasing your performance.

Ridgway Chiropractic is also a certified provider of Kinesio® tape used to improve oxygen transportation and reduce lactic acid formation. This helps to reduce fatigue to keep you competing at the highest level.
