“Greatly improved my quality of life by eliminating or reducing life long back pain issues.”

Active Release Technique® (ART) is a state-of-the-art, soft-tissue management system designed to treat problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and fascia. Based on massage techniques, ART allows the practitioner to quickly identify and correct the patient’s problem using over 500 treatment protocols unique to ART. Because of its specificity, the ART certification requires additional training and certification that goes far beyond traditional soft tissue techniques.

Acute injuries (strains, sprains, tears), repetitive trauma (poor posture, overuse), and decreased blood flow (hypoxia) result in damaged and painful tissue. As the body attempts to heal, scar tissue is produced around the affected area. This scar tissue binds down the tissues and restricts their ability to move. As it accumulates, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become entrapped.

Active Release Technique® targets scar tissue to restore proper muscle movement, length, strength, and blood flow. The result is increased functionality, improved range of motion, better stability, and most importantly, the elimination of pain.

Each ART session is a combination of examination and treatment. The provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tension, and movement of the problematic muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. The affected tissue is then treated with a specific protocol that utilizes precise tension and specific patient movement.
